The SSDI Process

1. Initial Application
In this first step, your medical limitations, symptoms, medical history and labor history are reported. The SSA takes this information into account to determine if you are disabled and if your state prevents you from working for the next 12 months. The SSA takes on average 6 to 8 months to review its application. Unfortunately, approximately two thirds of the initial applications are denied. But don’t worry:
We know what to do next!

2. Reconsideration
If your application was not approved, you still have another chance. In this step, the SSA is requested to review your application again in case an error has been made, and the additional information required by the SSA is provided. The reconsideration takes 6 to 12 months.
The SSA could then approve your monthly payments for disability.
The SSA could then approve your monthly payments for disability. If your case is denied, our office requests a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ).

3. Administrative Law Judge Hearing
In this last step, you appear before a judge who works for the SSA. Take in consideration that the SSA can take up to a year to schedule this audience. At the hearing, the judge examines the evidence and determines if you have the right to disability benefits. An expert lawyer from Walker Firm will help you throughout the process without having to pay a penny out of pocket. The process is confidential, and our team speaks English and Spanish.
